OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Sept. 23, 2014 – Kansas Gas Service is currently replacing natural gas distribution service pipelines in Lansing, Kan. The work is taking place on Fawn Valley Drive, Hithergreen Drive and Forest Glenn Drive.

The project is expected to be completed in approximately three to four weeks. Company officials do not anticipate any major interruption to traffic flow.

“This project is a part of our regularly scheduled maintenance plan and is a system-improvement program,” said Margaret Steele, manager of community relations for Kansas Gas Service.

Customers affected by this project have been notified by Kansas Gas Service, or by notice left at their home or business.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – April 28, 2014 – Approximately 90 customers served by Kansas Gas Service in Baxter Springs, Kansas, were affected by yesterday’s tornado.

Meters at impacted residences and buildings have been shut off as a safety precaution, said Dennis Okenfuss, Kansas Gas Service vice president of operations.

“Safety is the number one priority at Kansas Gas Service, and we’re committed to keeping customers in Baxter Springs safe,” said Okenfuss.  “Service technicians have surveyed damaged areas to ensure that all lines are secure from natural gas leaks.”

Residents are reminded of the following safety tips:

  • Never attempt to turn on your natural gas meter. Only a qualified Kansas Gas Service technician can restore service.
  • Prior to beginning any excavation in the affected areas, call 811 at least two full working days in advance to allow all utility line locations to be marked.
  • If you smell natural gas, leave the area immediately and call 1-888-482-4950 or 911.
