Who are the Safe Digging Heroes?
The Dig Heroes represent our customers and partners who encourage everyone to take the pledge to call 811 before starting any project that involves digging. The Dig Heroes include:
- The Homeowners
- The Excavator
- The Gardener
- The Developer
- Digger, the Safe Digging Dog
Like other superheroes, our Dig Heroes are ready and willing to fight bad excavation practices by raising awareness of the steps everyone needs to follow to successfully and safely complete any and all digging projects – no matter how small! Most importantly, the Dig Heroes ALWAYS call 811 before they dig – that’s step number one to making sure everyone stays safe.
Spring Weather Brings More Digging Projects
It’s spring, which means that a lot of us are starting outdoor projects that were dormant during the winter. Whether it’s planting a bush or a shrub, or installing a new deck or fence, it’s important that we’re all aware of what we need to do first: call 811.
Why Call 811?
To prevent injury, damage and service outages, it’s important that all underground facilities are identified before any digging project begins. One phone call to 811 will alert owners of registered pipelines, telecommunication cables and power lines to mark their buried utilities within two full working days of the request. Even better, there’s no charge for this service – it’s FREE! You may also submit a request online by visiting Kansas811.com.
Did You Know?
A recent national survey by the Common Ground Alliance, a damage prevention organization, reveals that 49% of homeowners who are planning outdoor projects will put themselves and their communities at risk by digging without contacting 811 beforehand.
