Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is the Equal Payment Plan?
The Equal Payment Plan is a budgeting plan to help residential and qualifying commercial customers know what to expect from their monthly energy expenses. The payment amount is based on the previous 12 months of billing history at the residence or place of business, and is the same amount each month.
How does the plan work?
The Equal Payment Plan amount and the settlement amount are printed on each monthly bill. Settlement is the difference between the monthly actual bill amount and the Equal Payment Plan amount. Each August the plan is recalculated and the amount is adjusted accordingly. The recalculation can result in an increase or a decrease in the amount.
Do I qualify?
Residential and commercial accounts without a past due balance at the time of enrollment are eligible and all future bills must be paid on or before the due date.
What if I have moved and don't have a 12-month history?
If you are new to the area, we will use the previous tenant's natural gas usage or determine the average usage for the area.
If you are concerned about changes in your usage patterns, don't worry. The Equal Payment Plan will be adjusted to reflect that change at the end of the 12-month period.
What if I discontinue service or want to cancel participation?
Simply call the Kansas Gas Service customer contact center at 800-794-4780 to request that your natural gas service be discontinued or to cancel your Equal Payment Plan participation. It’s that easy. Please note cancellation in the EPP may require a settlement balance which is the difference between the actual cost of gas and the EPP payments made.
